Bay Marina & Sportfishing Center
A full service marina and sportfishing center located
in the beautiful and tranquil bay of Golfito, Costa Rica. |
|
Banana Bay
Marina is located at the edge of a beautiful tropical rainforest
in a town called Golfito. The town and marina sit in a natural,
deep draft gulf offering excellent protection from the swells of
the Pacific Ocean. Up until 1985, Golfito served as the area headquarters
for the United Fruit Company. The
town derives its architecture and culture from that 50 year association
though it is evolving into a popular destination for tourists, yachtsmen
and sportfishermen alike. Golfito is an official port of entry into
Costa Rica. Southern Costa Rica offers excellent ecotourist activities
including a major research facility of the Organization for Tropical
Studies, and easy access to some of the world's most unique and
biologically diverse protected natural areas, such as Corcovado
National Park and the Golfito Wildlife Reserve. The zone also offers
excellent beaches and tropical rainforests with several lodges nearby
offering a break from the boat. Other popular activities include
world-class surfing, horseback riding, spelunking, sportfishing,
and kayaking. In addition to the natural attractions, Golfito offers
the only duty free shopping in all of Costa Rica in its Deposito
Libre. It's a great place to stock up before heading off to the
open seas. The town also offers a hospital, seven-day-a-week access
to branch offices of the national bank, and several fine restaurants.
Access by almost all modes of transportation is a breeze! Golfito
is served by two major commuter airlines with several regularly
scheduled flights daily to San Jose, Costa Rica's capital city.
Flying time is about 45 minutes. In addition, we can book direct
charter flights from San Jose and many other points in Costa Rica.
Please feel free to contact us for more information on the charters
and general travel. |

The
Marina Team
Captain
Bruce Blevins, originally a Floridian, is the Marina's General
Manager. Bruce first visited Costa Rica six years ago when he drove
his Jeep from Florida. During that visit, he came to love both Costa
Rica and its people. Bruce has had extensive experience both as
a patron and service provider in several sportfishing and marina
operations. He maintains a warm and friendly environment and welcomes
your suggestions for improving service. |
Capt.
Scott Beard
Scott joined our team 2 year ago along with his lovely wife Sue.
He has extensive experience in the maritime field from sailing tall
ships to yachts and fishing vessels. He started in the early 70s
as mate on the Brigantine Romance in the Carribean and served on
the USCG Barque Eagle as permanent crew for 3 years during his USCG
enlistment. He operated sail, dive and fishing vessels for numerous
years in Key West prior to taking the position of Harbormaster at
Useppa Island for 20 years where he met Bruce in 1984.
Because he has annually traveled to Costa Rica since 1978 for surfing
trips,
it was a natural fit to join up with Bruce helping operate Banana
Bay. His experience with operating marinas and vessels of all types
will help in making your stay with us as hassle free as possible. |
